The last big decision is how to apply the paint. Most pros use paint sprayers because they're fast, but in inexperienced hands a high-powered sprayer can leave drips, thin coats, and a mist that may land on many things other than your siding. If you do hire a painter who uses a sprayer, make sure he is meticulous about removing, covering, or masking off everything in the area that might get hit with overspray: gutters, roofs, windows, shrubbery, walkways, cars—you name it.
A professional painter will help you select an exterior paint designed for long-lasting results, superior protection, and ample coverage. Higher quality paint requires fewer coats and lasts far longer, saving you money down the road. Oil or latex paints in a flat/matte or satin finish make excellent choices for the exterior of your home. These paints will endure extreme weather conditions, can be customized to your specific climate, and are ideal for painting siding.

You can use the spray cleaner while working from a ladder -- although scaffolding is better -- but practice at ground level first; the force of the spray against the house could knock you off a ladder if you're not careful. Some of these machines come with separate containers you can fill with cleaning solutions or anti-mildew solutions. Sprayers are so powerful that ordinarily you probably won't need to use a cleaning solution; if you do, remember to rinse the surface with clean water afterward.
I managed commercial construction projects for many years, have built and remodeled several properties, and never once have I encountered any of these scams. The tone of this article is deeply troubling. The author seems to be saying that ALL painting contractors are inherently dishonest, and that has not been my experience. The underlying advice here is sound: get it all in writing and cover as many contingencies as possible--so pointing out potential pitfalls like coat coverage is helpful. But do that in the spirit of clear communication of expectations, not with the expectation that the person you are hiring will try to cheat you at every turn. Not every contractor takes outrageous advantage of change orders; not every contractor will sneak past necessary preparation and/or repairs. Contractors of all sorts get a bad rap as it is; reinforcing a stereotype with articles written from this point of view just seems unproductive.
The perfect roller would hold a roomful of paint, leave the right amount of texture, wouldn't spray or fuzz, and would be easy to clean. Until somebody invents the ideal one, follow these tips to choose the right roller. "The longer the nap, the more paint the roller will hold, but it will also create more texture." says Dixon. "A 1/2-inch nap lamb's-wool roller holds plenty of paint without too much texture," says Dixon. "Less expensive rollers can work," says Span. "Just wash them first in dishwashing liquid to remove any stray fibers." Most of the pros we spoke with prefer 9-inch rollers over 18-inch models -- they are lighter, cheaper, and easier to use. Despite these shortcomings, Maceyunas swears by the wider roller. "The roller can do a whole wall in a few up and down strokes instead of in several dozen W and M strokes," he says.

Never, never hire "Hanks painting" , he is a scam. He charged me 1800 for an 800 sqft house, with the agreement of painting the gutters. He not only didn't paint the gutters, the paint of the walls and front door is pealing off. He did not sand the door and the wall color is washing off. His people don't know the work and he much less than them since he painted the door.
This painter Scot never came and finished the job. Texted me at 6:30 in the morning saying that he isn't able to do the job I gave him. I would not recommend this painter to anyone. I will make sure everyone I know won't use this guy. He is the worse business owner I have ever met. I don't know how he is in business. Be very careful of this guy Scot. Don't trust him and don't pay him for anything for any work.

Prince Consort Henrik of Denmark presents his new collection of poems 'Roue-Libre' (Freewheel) at the Royal Yacht in Copenhagen, Denmark on June 16, 2010. Prince Henrik of Denmark has died at the age of 83. In 2017, he was diagnosed with dementia and was recently hospitalized after falling ill in Egypt. He returned to Denmark for a stay in the Rigshospitale in Copenhagen, and during a series of examinations a benign tumor was discovered on his left lung. His condition worsened and, according to media reports, he passed away in his sleep at Fredensborg Palace on the evening of Feb. 13, 2018. As part of our remodeling, we needed some intricate painting done.  We did some searching and found Sugar House Painting.  Liann and Rob were extremely thorough, well within our budget and super easy to work with.  In the end, we got exactly what we were looking for and we couldn't be happier.  We've already recommended them to some friends and plan on using them for all of our future painting needs.
This is an impressive Victorian Italianate (Boom Style) brick villa, with asymmetric front elevation and slate roof. A new front garden and front fence set off the restored villa and, set well back so as to not visually compete with the original and not be visible from the street, is an extension which includes a basement garage. This was a project by Sherbrooke Design & Constructions and painted by VJ Painting Services.
If you're going to do any part of the painting or prep work on your own, you must know that the first step in preparing a surface is washing it. Since dirt can affect the smoothness of a surface area -- and therefore paint's adhesion to it -- use soap to remove any dirt or stains. Make sure there's no soap left on the walls when you're finished; also make sure to remove any gloss with sandpaper and vacuum up the leftover dust.

We needed the exterior siding and the bay window at the front of the house painted. Home Painters were able to schedule the work a week after meeting with Sam. Initially, mid-job, we weren't quite crazy about the colour I selected - Sam, Jack, Rob and Jessica worked with us to help us land on the right colour and were able to make the change and have the job completed the next day. I really appreciated the follow up calls from Sam and Jessica, checking to ensure that I was satisfied and Jack did a great job painting. I am very happy with the end product and will definitely recommend them to friends and family

That aside, this was all telling and no showing. The protagonist's harrowing escape from vampire servitude is glossed over with a few boring sentences of infodump here and there -- why not start the book with it??? SHOW her feeling cheated out of her freedom, SHOW her escaping. The characters had almost zero personality aside from the one-dimensional "I'm Pure Eeeeevil!" antagonist and the embarrassing, squicky attempt to write a "sassy" black character. Most of the action consists of characters endlessly rehashing events that happen, inexplicably, off-screen. Giving up.
Deciding which paint to use has gotten much easier now that acrylic latexes have pushed oil-based paints almost to extinction. The acrylics offer superior performance (they don't harden with age, the way oils do, so they move and breathe without blistering), they don't mildew as readily, and they emit fewer VOCs, so they comply with new air-quality regulations. They also work over both oil- and water-based primers.
I agree with JHs. If there is no new color on it at all, just talk to the painter about it, if it was an honest mistake (which can happen very easily while painting) your painter should have no problem fixing it. However, in my years of experience, it is not unusual for 2 coats of door paint (good quality) not to cover very well at all. I once painted a red door 7 times, plus a tinted prime coat before I found the door to be a solid color.
Buying a can of premium paint, then bait and switch over to low-line products? Again, complete nonsense. Think about it for a moment; the Painter needs 5 gallons of wall finish. So, he buys one can of premium and the rest 'cheap'? How is he going to hide the 4 other gallons? What's he going to hide it in??? He only has ONE gallon of premium. It's not as though he's going to keep older can labels, they would be covered in paint of a different colour.

Over the past four years, I have had Scott's Painting Company complete several interior and exterior painting projects around my home. My number one goal when completing any home improvement project is quality workmanship and dependability. Mr. MacWhinnie and his company definitely uphold both of these standards and always surpass my expectations. I feel confident having them complete any project in my home knowing that the project will be completed with care and attention to detail.
I think what you doing is terrific! Professional. May God increase you! I am in cape town south africa, worked for years making everyone else wealthy and sometimes being short changed on commission to suit owners! How can I get a flyer idea from you to start on my own, I know the business but lack the forms so i can streamline and especially the flyer – I am willing to walk a street in a wealthy area from the 3rd Jan and ring bells, comment, keep it short and try to 20 homes a morning at set times 8am to 10am. Could you help me with a flyer idea, I have made a whats ap business card initially to get started, eco friendly. I need to do this and have a goal to see my Dad in Durban who is in his 90’s and financially not been able to see him, an owner closed and never gave me all….thanks Michelle – Going to plaster this 1st goal on my wall. michelle salati [on linkedin]

I hired House Painters Inc. and set up a date for them to come.  The whole operation took about 5 and a half days from start to finish.  Sung and his crew were extremely conscientious of all our belongings and took great care preparing the house.  They showed up on time at 8:30 everyday, and were completely unobtrusive with our comings and goings during their week here.

I'm hiring an interior painter and that is why I was reading this comment list. I'm concerned about your comment about Angie's List. Some of us don't have personal recommendations for tradespersons, and rely on sites like this. Are you saying that Angie's List's reviews are not complete or that they do not print some of the negative reviews? It's hard to know what to do - I have not been able to find a person who just had their paint done so I can ask him/her about the quality of the painter.

Payment. Every client is different. Every job has it's own unique set of circumstances. I always start off the discussion with my clients saying that I'm flexible on how they would like to proceed with payments but that I prefer half down. I refuse to change order. Change orders are my last resort. Instead I ask questions at our initial meeting and try to be sure to cover all bases before I submit my estimate.

Filling gaps with a paintable acrylic-latex caulk cuts down on drafts and makes your trim look better than new. The secret to using caulk is to cut the tip smaller than you think it should be; too much caulk makes a mess. Also, instead of using a nail to break the inner seal, use a small wire so you don't stretch out the nozzle. Also consider buying a dripless caulk gun, which will automatically back off the pressure after each pull on the trigger to prevent unwanted oozing.
My husband has been a professional painter over 30 years. He prides himself in his high level of work ethic and customer satisfaction. He stays up to date on techniques and finishes. He gives Very detail and accurate appraisals with contracts. At an alarming rate, as he starts to finish the last day or the day before, the client starts nit picking and being disrespectful towards his work when every day prior to that, they were very pleased, as he request ongoing satisfaction throughout the job. Then they don't to want pay remaining balance, bicker about final cost, or stop payment. He has a crew he has to pay whether the customer does or doesn't honor the contract as well as our own household expenses. Wasted time ,labor, money and effort lost. Now how do we fix this? Remind yourself and clients that a contract is based on honor.
Hi Eric, I’ve been spray painting for about 25 years in the marine industry, I’ve painted everything from super yachts, industrial barges, cars, an even factory’s plus houses. I have always worked for others (businesses) never been business minded, recently I went into business with a couple partners, an it started off ok but eventually went down hill from there, One of my partners claimed he knew how a business should be so I followed his lead, a lot of his decisions he made lost us a lot of work, eventually losing all contracts due to his stubbornness, saying this is how business is run. Now I have decided to step away from the company an go on my own. I watched the video of you ( how to start a business from scratch) an was blown away!!! Everything you stated in the clip? We did none of that when we started our company, (following the lead of my business partner) poured so much of my savings into it in the beginning an financially ruined me, I could go on for ever but now I’m broke, I’m starting to do sub contracting work now to get back on track with living expenses, I am going to start my own business an see where I go from there. I will take on what you said in the clip, an see how go. Thanks kind regards Richard

Professional, talented, and friendly – Needed some interior and exterior painting done on my house and I wasn’t sure who to call. Called about three separate painters and knew that Scott’s Painting Company was the right choice immediately. The owner Scott is friendly and gregarious and wants the homeowner to be pleased. He is incredibly focused on quality and the homeowner's satisfaction. Not only did he do a great job, but having him in our house was a pleasure--just the nicest guy in the world! He’s not the cheapest, but he’s the best the whole way around. Call him today for your painting needs! -- Connie

David took so much pride in his work and was really wonderful about communicating with us each step of the way. His crew painted the interior AND exterior of our home in maybe a week or less. I love how they painted our pipes outside of the house to match the colors- I'll attach a picture to show what I mean. Their attention to detail was fantastic! They seriously did not miss a spot and there was zero paint in any place that it wasn't supposed to be!
We selected Scott’s Painting Company to paint the interior/exterior of our church in Maple Heights. During our selection process, we knew we chose the right contractor right away! Scott met with our board and we were all completely impressed and confident that we had made the correct decision not only based on his presentation and his experience, but judged by his character and honesty. Not only did Scott and his crew exceed our expectations, but as a testament to his talents and job performance, several of our parishioners have hired Scott to paint their homes afterward. We highly recommend Scott’s Painting Company and wish him continued success in life and business. -- Pastor Bob
Do you need to paint your house, but also find yourself thinking of walking out of your office for good and picking up a paint gun instead? Does the thought of simple work with immediate results that you can see everyday sound much better than the frustrating mess of dealing with the people in your "white collar" job? Want to be a craftsman? Well guess what? It's not so simple as you might hope... Great book that will give you insight into the world of painting for a living and the folks who do. The authors website is also full of information on how to do the job right the first time. Much appreciated.
This job is usually done by a professional house painter. The painter will assess the walls, clean, and make any necessary repairs or removal of old wall coverings. They will also tape off any adjacent surfaces and cover nearby furniture and floors with drop cloths. Typically, they will apply a layer of primer, then one to three coats of paint, depending on the color and coverage. Once the paint is dry, they take a final walkthrough to inspect and make any necessary touch ups.
Only a dummy gets involved with so-called "contractors." Hire a qualified actual worker yourself. Check out their resume/background, etc. RULE #1..NO ADVANCE DEPOSITS! Pay daily or weekly or upon satisfied completion according your standard, not workers. Contractors are merely employment agents. If that's the way you get work done, then go ahead and waste your money and wind up with the myriad of problems enumerated upon in the news clip above. RULE#2.. NO SMOKERS. They are lighting up on your money. RULE#3: No cell phones while working. Talk on their own time after work
As a former professional painter, something that drives me crazy is when I see painters cut in around wall plates. First of all, the amount of time that it takes to cut in is usually much longer than the amount of time that it takes to simply remove the wall plate. Secondly it does not look nearly as clean as it does when the wall plate is removed and thirdly it can invariably leave paint on the wall plate itself which also looks sloppy. Make sure the painter takes them off and then reinstalls them. It's less time.

I feel that I have allot to offer this buisness and need to make this count me my fiance 5 yr old son yet old daughter,and15monthbold bsbybgirl.I’ve given so much of myself to this field to only in the end realize my family’s fait is in someone else’s hands in more ways than I realized.wich is why it’s a must for me to succeed.

If you don’t have any of those things, the customer needs to write the final payment to you. It does no good if it’s written out to your non-existent business. If it’s that small, you probably don’t even need to report it. But yes, end of year ask your accountant. This is probably not considered a home based business, but I don’t know for sure the definitions. I also don’t have information on remodeling businesses.

Back to Markus, first Deposit the package, and then go up to see Carl. There is nothing much to do downstairs, except turning on the android birds in a golden cage next to the big mirror. Go up and take care of Carl, like giving him medicine and taking to the bathroom.  It's actually good to know you don't require to do things in detail here, place Carl on the wheelchair, and then take him to the dining table. Once done you have to serve him breakfast. Wait for Carl to finish his breakfast, while watching TV showing a debate on Russia capturing Arctic that can cause World War III. Till the time you can wander around, there is a magazine on a table behind the TV, which confirms  Life Found on Titan.

So sad that Angie's List requires the contractor be notified!! They have lost me as a client. If I'm dissatisfied and want to give an "F" rating (question/workers...I SHOULD NOT be intimidated into passing up an opportunity to explain my experience! There is NO WAY my contractor got an Aplus rating from over five hundred people....so someone was lying....yet I can't report that without the contractor knowing it? REALLY?
Once work begins, hold brief daily meetings to discuss the job and schedule and quash any misunderstandings. If there are surprises, seek middle ground. No contract can anticipate every possibility. Materials may be unavailable. Large chunks of rotten siding may crumble along with the old paint. Exterior jobs may be stopped cold by a week of steady rain. But know that you'll pay extra if you change your mind about a color after the trim is already painted or otherwise add tasks to the project.

Recently I had the outside of my home painted. The contractor wrote a good contract, but I failed to realize that some things were not in it. It reminds me of the car dealer who offered a good price on a new car but failed to mention that it did not include tires. My contractor failed to specify that lattice under a porch was included. So the painters did not paint it. To his credit, he did instruct them to paint it when I brought it to his attention. If I had the job to do over again I would look for an individual who came with referrals from happy customers rather than a franchise owner..
Ask companies to include all details in writing. Although that sounds simple enough, too many contractors submit offers such as "paint house for $5,000." A friendly contractor may offer a reassuring handshake and promise that the crew will take care of all the details — starting on time, working every day, cleaning up, etc. That's great, but why not include each point in the proposal? If it's a challenge to get a written description of labor, materials and other details, things will probably get worse when the work starts.
I've seen this article sent out 4 times now. It's out dated in terms of today's "Scams." Paint stores haven't charged more money for deeper paint colors in over 15 years. Also Water downed paint? Seriously? That would never happen in the real world. And Wall repair? what painter would ever not assume wall repair as included? This article is a waste of time and should be taken down or edited to reflect actual scams of todays times.
Paint will be your next-biggest cost, at anywhere from $20 to $70 or more per gallon, depending on the sheen, the grade you’ve chosen and any special features. Some paints, for instance, are mold resistant. Others suppress smells or require fewer coats. Some have a lifetime warranty. Paints with warranties, however, may not be worth a higher price. In Consumer Reports tests approximating nine years of wear, only a few exterior paints and stains with lifetime warranties held up well. But “you’ll grow tired of the color long before a good-quality paint wears out,” Bancroft says.
