If you are unsure about what colors will work best in a space, you may wish to hire an interior decorator to help. Priming is compulsory if you're painting over a darker color, or on a new drywall, but it's a good idea to include this step before any paint job. A primer is necessary because it blocks any stains from bleeding through. It is also important because it prevents any blisters and paint-peeling by improving paint adhesion. Lastly, primer is a good idea as it allows complete single-coat coverage of the walls. If you want a better appearance, you can tint your primer with the final color you intend on using on the walls. Most paints today come with inbuilt primers, but an old school primer is still a better option. Before you start painting, remember to use painter's tape to cover your door frames, window sills, and any switches on the wall.

Bannister, the first runner to break the 4-minute barrier in the mile, has died. He was 88. For bigger houses or for faster work on smaller ones, rent a high-pressure spray cleaner. This device attaches to your home's water-supply system and puts out a jet of water at a pressure of about 600 pounds per square inch. It is equipped with a handheld wand tipped with a trigger-activated nozzle. The pressure is high enough to dislodge not only stubborn dirt, mildew, stains, and dried-on sea-spray salt, it's enough to remove peeling paint. In fact, if the jet nozzle is held too close to the surface it can even peel off perfectly sound paint, split open shingles, and drill a hole in siding. So follow the manufacturer's directions and wear goggles and protective clothing.


The total amount the customer pays you, minus all of your expenses is what you are left with – this is your pay. We don’t care about the initial startup expenses, we care about the expenses per job. These costs per job include the materials, the labor, and any other other non-reusable materials you use on the job. It could also include any marketing expenses you incurred to get this customer.
Started out funny, got kind of hapless, but at least one painter became sucessful. Actually John's dry sense of humor was present throughout the book, but just not as much as in the beginning. I am just about to start a painting and minor maintenance business and I must say, this book does not make me want to go rushing into it enthusiastically, but I am going to do it anyway as my business model is sole proprietorship and not a bunch of painting employees working together in one company. Lots of great painting tips in the book, but nothing compared to the wealth of information on John's website.
Not only did they paint our home- they also helped reattach a drain pipe that had partially come off the home, removed a small bee or wasps nest hanging off a side of the roof (this was SO nice of them and totally unexpected), and painted over some railings that were in serious need of TLC but were not included in our quote (we didn't ask for them to be painted when James came to meet with us). David asked my husband first about the railings and only painted them when he gave them the okay- it looks so much better and we appreciated this so much! While the painters were working we also had a termite inspection and contractor come over to look at something in the kitchen- David's team had no problem with this and were very accommodating.
D weekend in August.  Robert sent me a complete bid, signed upfront.  It arrived timely manner. He was doing most of the walls and the kitchen cabinets. He arrived on time, prepared and walked/talked me through the process. He was really good a outlining the days it would take and the steps involved so I was able to push back the flooring and avoid overlap.  We added a double-door to the project after the fact and Robert was able to accomodate me.  He  gave me paint recommnendations.    After the flooring was completed there was an issue with baseboards. The company had torn them off and not replaced correctly.  Robert notified me and went out of his way to send a detailed description of what happened.  This was just purely from an ethical, moral "right thing to do" to help me out standpoint!!  I would not hesitate to reccomend Robert as a contractor and painter. Not only a good guy but does a great job and extremeley professional. If he lived in CA he would be my "go-to" painter for every project.  If you need a painter look no further.

That aside, this was all telling and no showing. The protagonist's harrowing escape from vampire servitude is glossed over with a few boring sentences of infodump here and there -- why not start the book with it??? SHOW her feeling cheated out of her freedom, SHOW her escaping. The characters had almost zero personality aside from the one-dimensional "I'm Pure Eeeeevil!" antagonist and the embarrassing, squicky attempt to write a "sassy" black character. Most of the action consists of characters endlessly rehashing events that happen, inexplicably, off-screen. Giving up.
I did go with the highest bidder and it did not matter. They did a shoddy job and threatened to take me to court when I pointed out mistakes that they made based on their work standards stated on the quote. I have not paid them yet, just filed a complaint with the BBB. No money down asked, no contract signed. The boss stated I have to high of expectations just because I live in a 121 year old house!

To determine how much paint your house needs, measure the house's perimeter. Then multiply that figure by the height, excluding gable ends. Take the measurements with a steel tape measure, or reel out a ball of twine around the house and mark and measure the twine. If you will use a different paint on your home's trim, subtract 21 square feet for every door and 15 square feet for each typical window. Divide the final figure by the square-foot coverage specified on the can of paint to determine the number of gallons you will need for one coat.
Buying a can of premium paint, then bait and switch over to low-line products? Again, complete nonsense. Think about it for a moment; the Painter needs 5 gallons of wall finish. So, he buys one can of premium and the rest 'cheap'? How is he going to hide the 4 other gallons? What's he going to hide it in??? He only has ONE gallon of premium. It's not as though he's going to keep older can labels, they would be covered in paint of a different colour.
