First of all, just a brief summary of what happens in the movie. Spoilers included! Gyeon-woo is a college student who is going nowhere with his life. Even his mother tells him to let his aunt hook him up with a girl. One day, he meets a drunk girl on the subway and winds up having to take her to a motel after she calls him “honey” and faints on the train. There, he is mistaken for a rapist when cops barge in and find him naked (he was trying to get a towel after showering). After he gets released from prison, he begins to develop a strange relationship with the unnamed girl who treats him like a dog on a leash. Gyeon-woo’s very obedient and does everything she wants him to, accepting her very public abuses. In the second half of the movie, we begin to see the girl develop a soft side for Gyeon-woo. They break up and make up, but eventually the girl decides they should go their separate ways. They write a letter to each other, put it into a time capsule, and bury it so they’d return two years later to read it. Then they break up as Gyeon-woo tries to grow as a person and show the girl that he’s more of a man the next time they meet. But two years later as he returns to the meeting place, the girl is nowhere to be found. He reads her letter and finds out that she saw her dead boyfriend in him and felt guilty as she became more attracted to Gyeon-woo. She says she will return to see him once she has the courage to. A year after that, the girl returns to the meeting place and finds out from an old man that the tree there was replanted by a guy after lightning struck it dead so the girl wouldn’t be sad, showing that he still cares for her. The girl goes to meet her dead boyfriend’s mother, who finally gets to introduce her nephew to the girl. Turns out the nephew is none other than Gyeon-woo himself. And the two lovers are finally reunited.
