Somebody to love

[ music ] Somebody // Leighton Meester ft. Robin Thicke

Today was registration day and lo and behold, eSims has failed once again. A lot of people were blocked from registering for their classes. Fortunately, I was able to get all of mine, except for the winter class. Apparently my advisor left out the fact that I would not be able to get permission to sign up for MGT 3121. Wonderful. So now my January is vacant, and I’m searching for an internship to fill up my time. Of course, I’d rather play world traveler, but with no one to enjoy it with, not a lot of money, and parents who suspect that I’m planning on returning to China to find my ex-boyfriend, it’s not a very promising prospect. Well, I’ll find something productive to do.

After a slew of BCAS projects within the past few months, the club has finally been calming down a bit. Next week will be the CIS exam, and then there shouldn’t be another test for a while. At least until after Thanksgiving break. Speaking of, I have a sudden urge to hop on a long bus ride to Mohegan Sun. Not that I’m of gambling age yet (or drinking, for that matter). But it’s so beautiful there and anything beats staying locked up at home for the holidays.

Ah, my mini-DVI to VGA cable came in the mail today so now I can view movies from my laptop on our HDTV. ^^ Unfortunately, Mom and Dad have no appreciation for Chungking Express or any indie films at all. Instead, they’re telling me to find some good TVB dramas for them. *sigh* Anyway, they probably don’t approve of the sex scenes in those movies anyway, and we all know TVB is squeaky clean. I guess my safest bet is to stick to watching music videos on the TV, but nowadays even that’s too provocative for them.

Eh, it’s getting late. Still have to get up early for work tomorrow morning. At least I finished editing my resume and writing a new cover letter. It’s been a while; I almost forgot how job interviews go.

Hooray for 3-Day Weekends!

Took my Macro midterm today. While I’m pretty sure I didn’t get anything less than a B+, I was really hoping for an A. I know I got at least 3 questions wrong out of 47 already. *sigh* That’s borderline A and A-. I really shouldn’t doubt my gut feelings and change my answers. And I’ve been following up on current events, too! Why must the questions be so number-specific? I know the overall trend of the economy. T_T

Anyway, no use moping over it now. Let’s look forward to a longish weekend! Plans include homework, studying, working on project, shopping, watching foreign films, and photographing. Awesome. It’s little things like this that make life worth living. And the project is actually quite fun since I’m a marketing enthusiast. =) While finance and accounting are important, I don’t think I can spend the rest of my adult years doing that.

After tutoring today (last class cancelled!), I’ll go to Chinatown and do my brother a favor by picking up his medical papers. I’ve been criticizing him a lot, and rightfully so, about how he spends too much money. Ever since he got his job, it’s nonstop shopping every week. Last week it was clothes and a watch. This week it’s a jacket and Jordans. And according to the question I got wrong on the test, the personal savings rate in the U.S. is now 4-7%. Pfft. Not for him. Nonetheless, I haven’t been a very good sister either. I have a responsibility to take care of my younger brother and “reform” his money-wasting ways. So for once I’ll help him out (since my mathematical abilities are reaching their limit and I can’t tutor him much anymore as he approaches Calculus).

This weekend I’ll be applying to an internship at Y&R. Ever since Juan Cano came back to Baruch to speak to us about the company, I’ve been really interested in working for an actual marketing agency. Not that I don’t like the company I currently work for. My co-workers and boss are all super nice and I do get to build up my portfolio designing stuff. Plus, I get to listen to new music all the time. But I can’t stay here forever. Gotta always expand and look for other opportunities. So hopefully next summer I’ll be able to intern at Y&R…if they accept my resumé and if I don’t flunk the interview. x_X Aja!

I miss hearing this song in clothing shops at the underground mall in Nanjing. =( I love Dara; she’s adorable. And she’s getting better at singing live. ^^

Anyway, here’s an actual update! Oh snap.

  • Tutorials – added one tutorial on how to put text inside a shape.
  • Scans – added 8 scans of Mika Nakashima from her “Best” album.

frankmccourt Two days ago, one of my favorite authors – Frank McCourt, author of Angela’s Ashes, passed away at the age of 78. He truly had a wonderful gift of turning his story of a terrible childhood into a beautiful work of literature. I remember having to read it in high school and it was one of the better reads we had. “When I look back on my childhood, I wonder how I survived at all.” And yet he did, fortunately, and the world was blessed with his retelling of it. I love reading memoirs. Rest in peace, Mr. McCourt. I can only wish I could have had the pleasure of being one of your students at Stuyvesant.

During work today, I just listened to a ton of music and rediscovered oldies I previously heard in commercials and others from the 90s. Good stuff.

Hanging in there…

nikon[ music ] Rainy Dayz // Mary J. Blige ft. Ja Rule

The final days of the semester are fast approaching and the work piles high as usual (though worse this time due to all those business classes – liberal arts, how i miss you so!). After finals are over, it will finally be time to do some serious shopping and go barbequeing. Woot~

So last week was my birthday and it passed by quietly. Although my boss (internship) did give me a surprise. She called me into the room to listen to a piece of music and then my co-worker started playing happy birthday on the accordion and they sang and there was a beautiful cake with candles. ^^ I was so touched… Thank you so, so much! And thank you to my brother for the pair of earrings (even though Macy’s totally ripped him off) and to Lu for the Victoria’s Secret bath and body set. :D Yay~
