Love is my disease

Bought an iMac yesterday. It’s hot. Hooray for widescreen HD monitors! Of course, now there’s a ton of empty space on my desk (which was kinda small to begin with). Hopefully designing stuff would be a lot more efficient now. I still love my HP desktop, but every time I loaded Photoshop it would lag like crazy. My brother was complaining about always getting my second-hand computers. Kid, don’t be complaining. You have your own laptop and when you had your first second-hand computer, I was still traveling back and forth to the library at that age. Besides, you didn’t have to pay a cent. :p Anyway, there’s a lot of design work to do. Logotypes, fliers, pamphlets. Fun fun. Gotta abuse the font book later. Unfortunately, I forgot to save all my bookmarks from the other computer so…if you guys have any good design/inspirational sites to recommend, post the links below!

Here are some recent fliers I recently made:

‘Tis the season to be jolly!

[ music ] How Do I Breathe // Mario

Finals are creeping up, and I’ll be taking the first one tomorrow. And despite the nasty weather, life has been pretty good as of late. I keep reminding myself that it could always be worse, and then things don’t look so terrible anymore. I remember being really depressed in high school (well, it was pretty much like a prison) and didn’t understand how my cousin could be so optimistic all the time. But after entering college, I finally understood and began building on experiences, good or bad. And I realized that pushing friends away is not the answer, so thank you to all who have supported me!

I look forward to winter break, which should be here in about two weeks. My friends are most likely coming over to my house to celebrate Christmas again, exchanging presents, playing games, and just chatting. Much better than drinking at a bar. Besides, I made a New Year’s Resolution with my friend: I shall not drink alcohol for all of next year except on special occasions (birthdays, holidays) or I will give him $500. Better keep that promise!

Shopping for Christmas gifts is really fun, especially if it’s for people I actually care about. And receiving packages in the mail gives me a warm feeling inside. But I’ll still do the physical shopping with my friend this weekend. Whee~ Though I must say, the best part is going to be writing the Christmas cards. =)

Oh, I also promise to write another tutorial this winter break. Sorry I’ve been putting it off for so long!

Somebody to love

[ music ] Somebody // Leighton Meester ft. Robin Thicke

Today was registration day and lo and behold, eSims has failed once again. A lot of people were blocked from registering for their classes. Fortunately, I was able to get all of mine, except for the winter class. Apparently my advisor left out the fact that I would not be able to get permission to sign up for MGT 3121. Wonderful. So now my January is vacant, and I’m searching for an internship to fill up my time. Of course, I’d rather play world traveler, but with no one to enjoy it with, not a lot of money, and parents who suspect that I’m planning on returning to China to find my ex-boyfriend, it’s not a very promising prospect. Well, I’ll find something productive to do.

After a slew of BCAS projects within the past few months, the club has finally been calming down a bit. Next week will be the CIS exam, and then there shouldn’t be another test for a while. At least until after Thanksgiving break. Speaking of, I have a sudden urge to hop on a long bus ride to Mohegan Sun. Not that I’m of gambling age yet (or drinking, for that matter). But it’s so beautiful there and anything beats staying locked up at home for the holidays.

Ah, my mini-DVI to VGA cable came in the mail today so now I can view movies from my laptop on our HDTV. ^^ Unfortunately, Mom and Dad have no appreciation for Chungking Express or any indie films at all. Instead, they’re telling me to find some good TVB dramas for them. *sigh* Anyway, they probably don’t approve of the sex scenes in those movies anyway, and we all know TVB is squeaky clean. I guess my safest bet is to stick to watching music videos on the TV, but nowadays even that’s too provocative for them.

Eh, it’s getting late. Still have to get up early for work tomorrow morning. At least I finished editing my resume and writing a new cover letter. It’s been a while; I almost forgot how job interviews go.

A stale cigarette’s kiss

[ music ] 知己知彼 // 王菲

I remember first hearing this song 15 years ago and dancing along to it. Still love it. I finally watched Chungking Express the other day and it was beautiful. Planning on watching it every Valentine’s Day now. And my Tony Leung bias continues… Takeshi Kaneshiro was too adorable and I am now a big fan of Brigette Lin’s role in this film. I didn’t know Wong Faye had such a dorky side to her since she has such a cool persona onstage. Yeah, gotta buy this for Christmas and watch it with my parents.

Today was my Physics midterm. All that time I couldn’t stop thinking, “What the heck is this? I am so going to fail.” But surprisingly, it appears that I got most of the questions right when comparing answers after the exam. Quite a shocker. Though I have no idea what happened in lab today.

Tomorrow will be my CIS presentation. Kind of nervous about not being interesting enough. I practiced in front of two of my friends today and they said I don’t seem very enthusiastic about my topic. =( Maybe I’m just not a very funny person. Gotta throw in more anecdotes and cool pictures. And stop being so “professorial” and make it more colloquial. Oof. Practicing in front of the mirror again tonight…

What happened to my students in SACC? I have too much free time now.

I think I’ll go watch 2046 this weekend. Might just watch a bunch of Wong Kar Wai movies from now on (although I’m not too fond of epics). Man I can’t wait for this week to be over already. Likely to go drinking with Roxana on Saturday. I’m not an alcoholic, just need the occassional beverage-y release from stress.

Busy week, so why am I not being productive?

[ music ] Remapping the Human Soul album // Epik High

Ah, one of my favorite kpop albums. Raw beats, biting lyrics – before autotune reared its ugly head. And congrats to Tablo oppa and Hye Jung unnie on their wedding! Hope they enjoy their honeymoon and that unnie gives birth to a beautiful, healthy baby when they return. Them and Sean’s family, yo. Makes me wanna get hitched already.

This morning I received some good news. My poem, “August” has been chosen for publication for my school’s literary magazine. Good stuff. Never had my writing published before, so this is pretty exciting (and I’m telling myself here that the selection process was very competitive even though it probably wasn’t). Thank you, Encounters! I will continue writing more poetry [that hopefully doesn't suck].

One of my commenters requested a tutorial for this flyer, which I think I will work on once I’m through with this week and the next Monday and Tuesday. Then I can look forward to Thanksgiving and hopefully chill out for a while. In the meantime, here are two flyers I’ve recently created for school events. The first one was kind of plain at first until I thought of repeating the company name as a pattern for the background. The second one I’m not too fond of; it was kind of a rushed job. I don’t know. I guess my brain was temporarily fried. The third one still needs some editing. The last one was for a pre-Halloween party.
