“Beyond the Realm of Conscience” Episode 3 Summary

It turns out the Empress Dowager actually really liked Sam Ho’s proposal and rewards the Department of Attire, much to the chagrin of Tsui Wan. Later, when Sam Ho goes to offer Tsui Wan part of her reward, Tsui Wan warns her that the Empress may favor her now, but that only means she’ll have higher expectations of her for the future. Suet Ha interrupts and get into another verbal argument with Tsui Wan. Suet Ha tells Sam Ho to be careful of others’ intentions; even if she’s nice to them, it doesn’t mean they’ll return the favor. Sam Ho goes to visit Bo Gong Gong and it seems like they’re still getting along quite well. Although she’s in the Department of Attire, she still has a knack for making jewelry and he goes to buy materials for her. Nice to know that not everyone is scheming to rip people’s throats out. It also seems like Bo Gong Gong has a thing for Suet Ha. She offers him some of the food the Empress gave her in exchange for a favor – to have a look at the plans from the Department of Jewelry.

Flashback to Kam Ling talking to Choi King by her death bed while Sam Ho is away getting the flowers. Of course, Sam Ho has no idea that her “sister” was the one who led her mother to her death.

The Empress has decided to destroy the headpiece, believing it brings bad luck, although Tsui Wan wants to preserve it in honor of Choi King. So she uses a hammer to injure her own hand, claiming that the headpiece was too strong and was probably not meant to be broken.

This is my first TVB ancient drama episode summary, so please bear with me! The reason is because the language back then is much harder to understand for me, especially since I watch them without English subs. But my Chinese has improved slightly, so I’m giving it a shot anyway!

Beyond the Realm of Conscience is one of the two TVB grand productions for 2009. Just a reminder, the TVB Anniversary Awards Ceremony takes place December 4. If you want to check out your favorite actors/actresses, remember to watch it! Okay, so back to the drama. TVB seems to recently have a thing for starting off series years into the future. What I mean is, the viewer gets to see the later half of the drama right from the beginning. I’m not too fond of this technique, unfortunately. What winds up happening is we see Kam Ling (Tavia Yeung) and Sam Ho (Charmaine Sheh) arguing like crazy and we have no idea what’s going on (well, if you didn’t spoil yourself with a synopsis of the show beforehand). So let’s rewind back to twenty years ago…
